It is that time of year again and instead of serving the artery clogging standards, why not try something new?
Share healthier options with your family and friends as you gather over the next few months. The Mayo Clinic offers up great ideas for healthy holiday dishes. Multiple choices of soups, salads, turkey, side dishes, breads and of course desserts. You don’t have to sacrifice flavor to eat healthier.
Below we share a couple of those recipes and provide a link to the article with all the recipes. Any of these dishes can be tweaked if there is an ingredient you don’t like. For example, the Wild Rice Mushroom Soup has carrots. I do not like carrots, so I leave them out. The important thing to tweaking a recipe is to tweak it with healthy ingredients.
Wild Rice Mushroom Soup
There are many varieties of mushrooms all with their own unique flavor and texture. This recipe calls for white mushrooms but you may use any variety you prefer. All are around the same number of calories.
By substituting the chicken broth with vegetable broth and using a milk substitute you can make the recipe plant based.
